What is the LangChain Certified Agent Engineer exam?

The LangChain Certified Agent Engineer (LCAE) is a paid, proctored certification exam covering the full agent development lifecycle: building, testing, deploying, and monitoring agents.
Passing the courses does not grant certification, and buying the exam does not include any paid coursework.

Exam format
40 multiple-choice questions, 28 correct to pass
120 minutes (about 135 minutes of total seat time)
English only
Online, live proctored, taken solo
Certification is valid for 24 months
Four equally weighted domains: building, testing, deploying, and monitoring agents
The exam is semi-open-book. Candidates may consult LangChain-owned resources only (the LangSmith app, LangChain docs, and LangChain Academy). General web search, AI assistants, browser automation, second screens, and outside communication are not permitted.
Candidates are also provisioned a dedicated LangSmith organization, invited by email roughly two hours before the exam start time, which is used to answer several of the questions.
Preparing
LangChain publishes five free foundation courses as prerequisites. These are meant to be completed before the exam, not consulted during it. They are listed on the certification page and at https://academy.langchain.com/collections.
Rules and logistics
The official exam guide is the source of truth for proctoring requirements, ID requirements, environment and device rules, arrival windows, and no-show handling. Point candidates there rather than paraphrasing the rules:
A few points that generate the most questions:
Join at least 15 minutes early for ID check, room scan, and system verification. Joining more than 10 minutes late is treated as a no-show and requires rescheduling at full cost.
A webcam, a phone used as a second environment camera, a screen share, and a full 360 degree room scan are all required. A table and chair are required; beds and couches are not permitted.
No notes or scrap paper, and no breaks.
Sessions ended by a candidate-side connection problem are not refundable.
